The Northern Lights: The
Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, most commonly
occurs heavily between late August and April. Prime viewing time is
late evening through the wee hours of the morning.
Chena Hot Springs: Chena Hot Springs
is a resort that offers an Ice Museum, dog sled rides, and the
Natural Hot Springs which are an average of 106 degrees Fahrenheit
year-round.
The Santa Claus House: The Santa
Claus House located in North Pole, Alaska spreads the joy of
Christmas all year round. Meet Santa and his render and get
Christmas gifts/souvenirs 365 days a year!
The
World Ice Art Championship: The World Ice Art
Championships is a display of ice sculptures done by hand by
international artists. They have interactive ice sculptures like
chairs and slides and lights are used to illuminate the sculptures
at night.
The Midnight Sun Festival:
Alaska’s largest single day event unfolds in downtown Fairbanks
from noon – midnight each year. Streets in downtown Fairbanks are
closed to traffic and become pedestrian only for bringing great
food, great shopping and great people together.

Recreation: The FNSB Parks and Recreation Department
preserves and creates an inclusive community culture by providing
places and programs design to enrich the quality of life. Spend a
sun soaked day at Pioneer Park or Chena Lakes!
Tanana
Valley State Fair: The Tanana Valley State Fair
Association seeks to highlight and enhance appreciation for
Interior Alaska by showcasing competitive and commercial exhibits
during an annual fair with community appeal. Founded in 1924, the
Tanana Valley State Fair is the oldest fair in the state. Over
1,000 volunteers come together to make this annual summer event an
incredible community experience!
The Riverboat Discovery: The
Riverboat Discovery is a three-hour cruise that takes you into the
heart of Alaska. You will see a bush floatplane takeoff alongside
the boat, visit the home, kennels, and sled dogs of the late
four-time Iditarod winner Susan Butcher, and have Alaskan Native
Guides take you on a personalized tour of the Chena Indian
Village.
The Gold
Dredge 8: Strick it rich, at the Gold Dredge 8.
Visitors ride on a replica of the narrow-gauge Tanana Valley
Railroad and hear stories of prospectors during the gold rush. At
the Gold Dredge 8 site, visitors even learn to pan for gold!

Schools
Families living on-post at Fort Wainwright are served by the Fairbanks North Star Borough school district. New students need to enroll at the school they will be attending. For more information, visit the school district website by clicking "Go" below.
A copy of the child’s birth certificate is required for all pupils entering kindergarten and for first graders who haven’t been enrolled in the district before. All new students must submit proof of immunization before being admitted. Please bring a copy of the student’s transcript or report card to help with class placement. Also, proof of residency (lease, utility bill such as phone, water, electric, etc.) is required at the time of registration.
Childcare
The first step in participating in CYS Programs and activities is registration. Create your account/household profile at www.militarychildcare.com, so you can waitlist your child for care. The second step is to visit Parent Central Services at Building 3414 Rhineland Avenue to complete the registration process.

Fort Wainwright: Welcome to Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Fort Wainwright is the home of the United States Army Garrison and units of the United States Army Alaska (USARAK). USARAK units include the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, or 1/25th SBCT, as well as aviation units with the USARAK Aviation Task Force and supporting units such as Medical Department Activity Alaska, or MEDDAC-AK.
MWR Outdoor Recreation: Whether you're an avid outdoors lover, complete novice, or somewhere in between, the Outdoor Recreation Center (ODR) is the place to be. We offer gear rentals, adventure programs, clinics and training, Warrior Adventure Quest, and Women in the Wilderness Trips, and indoor climbing wall, customized trips, and more!
ACS: The Fort Wainwright Army Community Service (ACS) is a comprehensive blend of quality of life programs in line with Department of Defense (DoD) activities. The programs offered are intended to provide support services, education, and information to assist Soldiers, Family Members, Retirees, and DoD Civilians assigned to Fort Wainwright.
